The Latin phrase meaning "in the absence" can refer to legal proceedings where a person is absent, such as when the accused is not in court. In a non-legal context, it can also refer to a person receiving their diploma without attending the ceremony. The story behind this painting is when we feel absent from life while going through the motions. Time is swiftly passing and we see loved ones (humans and pets) leave this life. Are we being present in their lives or are we "living in absentia?" Just something to think about...
